The project combines insights from mathematics education with the practical demands of vocational training. While the apprentice edition focuses on independent learning, the instructor edition serves as an extended companion resource, demonstrating how mathematical content can be introduced, deepened, and consolidated.
The book follows a four-phase learning model (development, consolidation, automation, and application) and covers key topics such as basic arithmetic, fractions and percentages, proportional reasoning, quantities and units, and geometry.
A key feature is the systematic inclusion of fully worked solutions, didactic commentaries, and practical teaching tips for all tasks. These support instructors in identifying typical errors, structuring learning processes, and providing targeted support. Diagnostic elements are also included.
All content is developed, tested, and refined in collaboration with instructors to ensure practical relevance. The project aims to bridge theory and practice and to contribute to the sustainable development of fundamental mathematical competencies in vocational education.
The proposed project aims to systematically develop a Rasch-scaled measurement competence test specifically for the primary school context. Building on previous work, where five separate tests were ex-post combined into a joint metric, the new project will develop an independent test instrument from the ground up. The test will consist of coordinated subtests for grades 1 to 4, linked through anchor items to enable calibration onto a common scale. This allows for valid cross-sectional and longitudinal comparisons of learning progress and the detection of individual competency profiles.
A Rasch-scaled test of this kind is essential for educational research, as it provides the basis for analyzing learning trajectories, evaluating interventions, and identifying specific learning needs in the domain of measurement. Moreover, the test will support large-scale educational monitoring, teacher training, and targeted support for students with learning difficulties in measurement concepts.
Specifically, in spring 2025, approximately 2000 Styrian young persons between the ages of 14 and 18 were surveyed online on topics such as leisure activities, values, anxieties and future expectations, health behavior and school well-being, inclusion and democracy, and ultimately, religion and faith. Based on the available data, specific research questions will now be pursued, supplemented not only by purely quantitative approaches but also by an in-depth qualitative study that examines the area of religion more closely. The publication is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
