Specifically, in spring 2025, approximately 2000 Styrian young persons between the ages of 14 and 18 were surveyed online on topics such as leisure activities, values, anxieties and future expectations, health behavior and school well-being, inclusion and democracy, and ultimately, religion and faith. Based on the available data, specific research questions will now be pursued, supplemented not only by purely quantitative approaches but also by an in-depth qualitative study that examines the area of religion more closely. The publication is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
This project examines to what extent reference point knowledge and estimation strategies in the context of length, area, and volume affect the development of arithmetic competencies. The study involves students from grade 1 to grade 5. It uses tests of size and measurement concepts (GET) alongside standardized arithmetic tests (ERT). The data collection is carried out as a cross-sectional study. Correlation and regression analyses will be used to determine whether and to what extent size and measurement competencies predict arithmetic performance.
The goal of the project is to generate empirical insights into the relationship between spatial-quantitative concepts and arithmetic skills, and to derive approaches for the further development of teaching and support strategies in mathematics education.
This project addresses this research gap by investigating how measurement and size competencies develop from first to fourth grade. Special attention is given to social factors such as gender, migration background, and socioeconomic status. The study is theoretically grounded in models of measurement and size competence, which distinguish between key subdomains such as estimating, ordering, comparing, and calculating with measures.
