Beschreibung
Striking the balance between the necessary content to be learned and the central principles and structures of the respective subject is a challenge for curricula worldwide and is also named as a criterion for the design of curricula in the 21st century. Therefore, central concepts function as knowledge integrating and knowledge structuring. How necessary new content-substantial (not only technically operating) concepts are as functions of knowledge organization is shown to us by the most successful „learners of the world“, namely school systems in which it is taught how to creatively link new and known knowledge within basic concepts as soon as their analytical „power“ is understood. In this publication we want to show examples of central subject concepts from essential teaching disciplines (mathematics, geography, history, natural sciences, philosophy, literature studies, linguistics). We show not only the scientific explanatory power of core concepts from these fields for phenomena of the everyday world, but also their function for problem solving in the school classroom and even in teacher education.
