Beschreibung
Beschreibung (engl.)
The objective of the research project “The effects of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) on their teaching“ is to investigate the sustainability of in-service training measurements such as the “CLIL course for Austrian HTLs” (vocational colleges), which lasts two semesters and has 8 credits. In this course the participants, all teachers of Austrian vocational colleges, are introduced to CLIL methodology and didactics in order to implement CLIL in their subjects, as is intended by the new curricula for Austrian vocational colleges. But beyond the efficient implementation of CLIL the course is intended to offer the teachers tools for competence – oriented teaching and learning strategies. 20 participants of the course have been interviewed with regard to the effect of the course on their CLIL – classroom as well as on their regular classes taught in German. The results show that a number of factors are decisive for the successful transfer of the CLIL – input into daily teaching, such as a continuity of classes and subjects, the knowledge that the material created with an enormous amount of time and energy, can be used again, cooperation with other colleagues, and the support by the school authorities. But the results suggest that above all the personal readiness to try out new approaches and to put the students in the center of the learning process is the most important factor.
